Your support is really powerful!
Conservation-First
Experience
Pandaland supports the global effort to protect and restore wild panda populations. Every visit helps fund breeding, research, and habitat restoration in China — connecting New Zealanders to real conservation work and strengthening partnerships focused on returning pandas to their natural homes.
Learning Through Conservation
Helping New Zealanders understand the giant panda’s world — how they live, why their habitats are under pressure, and what it takes to protect a threatened species. Aligned with the NZ Curriculum’s focus on global citizenship, sustainability, and science capabilities, Pandaland connects students and visitors with real international conservation work to restore habitats and return these gentle giants to the wild.
A Cultural
Bridge
Pandaland brings Chinese and Māori cultures together through shared values of guardianship and respect for nature. Visitors learn how both cultures view their relationship with the natural world — from China’s panda conservation work to Aotearoa’s principles of kaitiakitanga — creating a space for genuine cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.
A home for Pandas in New Zealand
Pandaland is a privately funded, not for profit conservation and cultural project proposed for Hawke’s Bay.
It aims to bring two Giant Pandas to Aotearoa as part of a conservation partnership designed to benefit New Zealand, Hawke’s Bay, and global Panda conservation efforts.
This initiative enriches the region’s economy, strengthens cross-cultural collaboration with China, and supports long-term species preservation – all without any cost to local or national government.
Pandaland Fly-through
Our
Mission
At its core, Pandaland is dedicated to the preservation of Giant Panda bears, ensuring the species' future through educational initiatives and conservation efforts.
By grounding visitors in the realities of habitat loss, species protection, and international collaboration, Pandaland helps New Zealanders understand what it truly takes to safeguard a vulnerable species for the long term.
Conservation in Action
Pandaland contributes to international conservation through education, public awareness, and support for panda preservation efforts – including habitat restoration and future reintroduction initiatives led by China. Pandaland contributes to this effort through conservation-focused education, responsible captive care, and annual support for the Chengdu Research Base’s breeding and research programmes. Our conservation-centred environment creates opportunities for visitors, researchers, and students to engage in meaningful learning.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Through school programmes, workshops, and digital learning, we inspire curiosity and environmental stewardship. Students explore ecosystems, biodiversity, and cultural exchange through engaging, curriculum-linked experiences.
